Committee must approve all exceptions.

Service Hour Approval Policy

For any service to count as service hours for Boy Scouts, the work must be approved in advance by a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster.  The work must benefit an organization or people other than his own family.  An exception would be made for a Scout helping his brother on his Eagle project.  The work must be a volunteer effort, i.e., not for pay. The beneficiary of the service project needs to know, before the project starts, that it is a Boy Scout Service Project.

Requests for exceptions to this policy must be made in writing to the Scoutmaster.  The final decision will be made by the Troop Committee.

Boards of Review

If a scout is unable to attend his scheduled Board of Review; it is his responsibility to contact the Scoutmaster prior to the BoR. If he fails to contact the Scoutmaster, a special make-up BoR date may not be scheduled quickly.

Class A uniform is mandatory for attendance in the BoR. If there are extenuating circumstances in which a scout cannot wear his full Class A; the scout is responsible for contacting the Scoutmaster prior to coming to the scheduled BoR in order to receive instructions on how to proceed.

Merit Badge Guidelines

The Scout will need to demonstrate merit badge work to the satisfaction of his Merit Badge Counselor. If the Counselor deems that sufficient progress has not been made; he may give the scout a deadline in which progress must be made or the scout might be required to retake the merit badge from the beginning.

Scout Account Policy

A Scout Account shall be maintained for every Scout in Troop 227
There are several reasons for maintaining Scout accounts.

1) Teaches a Scout fiscal responsibility.
2) Provides a method for each Scout to pay his own way in Scouting.
3) Promotes personal responsibility.

One of the primary purposes for a Scout account is to pay for Summer
Camp.  The minimum balance in a Scout's Account will be the cost of
one Summer Camp.  Any overage may be withdrawn according to the
policies in this document.

Deposits

A Scout must submit all monies associated with a given fundraiser
before his Scout Account will be credited.  Individual donations may be
directed into a specific Scout Account.

Withdrawals

A Scout may withdraw monies from his Scout Account by the
following methods but may not reduce his balance below the amount
needed for next Summer Camp.

Submit original or photocopy of receipt for Scouting-related item along
with written approval of each purchase by any Troop Leader or Troop
Committee Member.  Submit written request to use Scout Account to
pay for a specific troop activities such as expenses associated with a
troop outing.

The Troop Treasurer has final authority to approve withdrawals from
Scout Accounts with the Troop Committee available to resolve any
discrepancies.  Reimbursement checks will be available to Scout within
one month of submission.

Termination

If a Scout leaves the troop for any reason, the balance in his Scout
Account shall be deposited in the Troop's General Fund except in the
following cases.

1)      The Scout's family moves to another city more than 30 miles from
Nashville, AND the Scout joins a troop near his new home, AND the
Scout's new troop uses a "Scout Account" approach similar to the one
used by Troop 227, AND within 30 days of the move, the Scout's
parents submit a request in writing that the balance of his Scout
Account be transferred to the new troop.
2) The Scout attains the rank of Eagle and leaves the troop in good
standing.  In this case, the balance of the account may be used to
provide the Scout with a nice parting gift from the troop.
3) Other exceptional cases may be considered by the Troop
Committee at the Committee's discretion.
