Grimes 2011

Well, the weather was certainly right for a day of fun on the river! After
many extremely hot days, Troop 227 was looking forward to our annual trip
to Grimes Canoe Base. Located on the Buffalo River in Perry County, it's a
favorite spot of many of the boys in the troop and a trip they look
forward to each year.


The weather cooperated a little with a heavy rain shower just before we
arrived on Friday night. That cooled the temperatures down enough to make
sleeping a little easier. The skies cleared out by sunset and we were
treated to a sky full of stars! Many stars that aren't visible in the city
lights filled the sky on Friday night!

On Saturday, we had a great breakfast and then headed out to get our gear
and start enjoying the river. The water was pleasant, and we saw several
fly fishermen enjoying a peaceful Saturday. After a few stops to play in
the rapids, we arrived at everyone's favorite spot - the rock ledges!
While the cooks prepared lunch, the rest of the boys (& a couple of the
adults) took turns swinging out over the river from the rocks and dropping
in for a cool dip.

On our last leg of the trip, we had a summer rain shower, but I think
everyone enjoyed that as well, since we've had such hot weather. After a
little play time at the base while the rain lasted, we all changed into
some dry clothes and headed for home. See ya next year, river!
