Charles E. Parish Reservation Troop Outing

T

roop 227 camped over night at the Charles E. Parish Wilderness Reservation on November 16, 2007.  We enjoyed an inspiring campfire program during which we retired a tattered U.S. flag.  We also explored some beautiful waterfalls and overlooks.  We spent Saturday afternoon working on rank advancements, Totin’ Chip, and performing a service project of gathering and stacking firewood to help clean up the deadfall. A good time was had by all who attended.

Cumberland Caverns Troop Outing

T

roop 227 made its second visit this century to Cumberland Caverns on November 17, 2007, the previous visit occurring exactly five years ago.  Twenty-three members of the troop, including a few guests, spent the night in the cave.  During the evening we enjoyed the wild tour, commercial tour (including the God of the Mountain special presentation), snacks, movie, and ghost story.  The wild tour was the most popular activity during this event.  The next morning, we ate breakfast, conducted our own worship service, and departed.  Another boatload of memories and folklore was added to our troop’s history on this trip.

Popcorn Fundraiser Notes

T

roop 227 distributed popcorn to its Scouts on November 18 and 19, 2007.  All products need to be delivered and all money turned in to the Popcorn Kernel Jeff Osteen, or Troop Treasurer John Hammond, by Monday, 12/3/07 so that the troop can receive the full commission on its sales.

2007, A Year in Review

T

he troop’s year can best be summarized in one word.  Fun!  We went on a bunch of fun camping trips highlighted by the Oak Ridge Atomic Energy Museum, Land Between the Lakes, Savage Gulf, Fort Knox, Ocoee Whitewater Rafting, and Cumberland Caverns.  We attended the Fall Camporee as well as Boxwell Summer Camp.  Most Scouts advanced one or more ranks including two Scouts who earned the rank of Eagle, Justin and Will.  Also, many merit badges were earned this year.  We hope everyone is looking forward to another fun year of Scouting in 2008!
