Kroger Gift Cards – The cards
that KEEP ON giving…to Troop 227!!!
We
recently began our sales of Kroger Gift Cards…actually it’s more of an
exchange. When you pay $5 for a gift card registered as supporting Troop 227,
you get your $5 back ON the card. Then you can recharge it up to $500 and use
if on groceries, medicines or gasoline and our troop gets 4% of your purchases
from the card. If you’d like more information, please contact Mellie Brackett
at 793-5462 or mbrackett@mac.com. Let’s
get these cards in place quickly and with as many friends and family members as
possible. It’s a way for them to support us financially THROUGHOUT the year
with very little effort and NO extra expense. What could be better than that?
Cedars of Lebanon Campout Report
Friday
night, November 14th, the faithful troop packed up its gear and
headed east to a local favorite campground at Cedars of Lebanon State
Park. Each expedition brings new
experiences…this one was no exception.
We arrived at base camp in rainy conditions. Everyone chipped in to help setup tents and
tarps to ensure a dry sleeping bag for the night.
After a
good, hot breakfast on Saturday morning, we took a short drive down to
Murfreesboro to tour Stones River National Battlefield. We were greeted by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic
park ranger dressed as a Union soldier, describing all the events which
occurred 146 years ago. Not only did the
park ranger demonstrate how to load and fire a Civil War rifle, but also he had
the scouts participate in a simulated drill of loading and firing a cannon!
Later
that afternoon, we returned to Cedars of Lebanon State Park for a presentation
at the Nature Center. The star of the
show was a turkey buzzard being nurtured after a recent injury. We quickly learned how important this bird’s
role is in the cycle of life.
At the
close day, the troop enjoyed a hearty meal and an enjoyable campfire program.
And we had a warm night’s sleep despite the cold outside our tents.
The next
morning, after packing up and enjoying a meaningful worship service, the troop
came home with a greater knowledge and appreciation of the land in which we
live!
