Kroger Gift Cards Ð The cards
that KEEP ON givingÉto Troop 227!!!
WeÕve
already seen several folks recharging their gift cards. Now letÕs get more
people on our Òbandwagon.Ó Here again are the specifics.
When you
pay $5 for a gift card registered as supporting Troop 227, you get your $5 back
ON the card. Then you can recharge it up to $500 and use if on groceries,
medicines or gasoline and our troop gets 4% of your purchases from the card. If
youÕd like more information, please contact Mellie Brackett at 793-5462 or mbrackett@mac.com. LetÕs get these cards in
place quickly and with as many friends and family members as possible. ItÕs a
way for them to support us financially THROUGHOUT the year with very little effort and NO extra expense. What could be
better than that?
Geology Merit Badge Class
On
Saturday, December 13th, scouts from Troop 227 with other local
troops were fortunate to attend this yearÕs Geology merit badge class conducted
and sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Gem & Mineral Society (www.mtgms.org). This was held in conjunction
with the 28th annual ÒEarth Treasure ShowÓ at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds,
with many dealers displaying gems, jewelry, minerals, and fossils. Enough cannot be said about this
organizationÕs dedication in helping scouts complete the requirements for this
merit badge. The volunteer
instructors were most qualified to teach.
One of the instructors spent two months in Antarctica working with a
team of paleontologists. Another
instructor worked with a research team at the North Pole for 4 weeks. During the course, scouts learned
different methods of identifying various rocks and minerals, while assembling
their own rock collection. At the
end of the day, everyone came away with a deeper appreciation for the abundant,
natural resources which God has given to us on planet Earth.
State Capitol Tour
Never a
dull moment around these parts! At the spur of the moment, several scouts
decided to take advantage of the holiday to work on their Citizenship in the
Nation Merit Badge. Scouts: Donovan, Luke, Nathan, Peyton, and Thomas
along with troop leaders: Scott Burner, Tommy Primm, and
Mellie Brackett attended the daily tour of our state
capitol building on Friday, January 2nd. With the House not in
session, it was a quiet time where we could easily ask lots of questions and
learn a lot more about our state government AND itÕs history in this beautiful
building. Want a little more excitement? Attend Jan. 13thÕs swearing
in of the full state House and Senate or call your local representatives and
plan to be page for a day.
Did you
know there are two people buried in the walls of the building? Did you know
Tennessee was the last state to join the Confederacy and the first to rejoin
the Union by ratifying the 14th amendment (amidst a lot of
hullabaloo right in our state capitol building)?
Meeting location
Regular
troop meetings will continue to be in the Crieve Hall
church building until we're given clearance to return to the scout house. Note
that the PLC on the 19th will be at the Brentwood ShoneyÕs and the
meeting on the 26th will be at the Brentwood City Council meeting.
