Grimes Canoe Base

T

his month’s expedition was canoeing down the mighty Buffalo River near Linden, TN!  We arrived at Grimes Canoe base at dusk.  Ranger Wayne Hamm greeted us at the outpost.  The campfire program was the highlight of the evening when our Scouts retired an American flag in a dignified ceremony.  Before extinguishing the campfire flames, the Scouts had a devotional before retiring to their tents.

T

he next morning after breakfast, the Grimes Canoe staff scurried us up the road with our canoes, to begin our 7 mile river journey back to camp.  Because of recent rainfalls, the river was somewhat swift and beautiful.  After three hours of paddling, the scouts pulled up to a sandbar for lunch to cook hot dogs over an open flame.

O

ne of the high points of the trip was Benjamin and his father, Mike, completing the expedition with our troop.  Benjamin was able to earn the Arrow of Light award and eventually crossed over into our troop.  Congratulations, Benjamin!

Memorial Day Flag Planting

T

hank you to all of the Scouts, adult leaders, and parents who attended the flag planting service project on May 24, 2008, at the Nashville National Cemetery.  This important work serves as an annual reminder to us that freedom isn’t free.  Many brave Americans have given their lives so that we may enjoy the many blessings afforded by our free society.  May we never take our freedom for granted.
