Welcome New Assistant Scoutmaster

Troop 227 welcomes new Assistant Scoutmaster Bubba Ingram.

Memorial Day Flag Placement at the National Cemetery

This past Memorial Day weekend, scouts from Troop 227 participated in the Annual Memorial Day Flag Placement at the National Cemetery, in Madison. These scouts showed their patriotism and citizenship for our Country's Veterans by placing an American flag at each grave site.  This scouting tradition was started more than 35 years ago, and still continues to grow.  It is a humbling experience to stand by the grave side of those who died for the cause of the freedom.

Grimes Canoe Expedition

On Memorial Day weekend, 10 scouts and 3 adult leaders from Troop 227 went to the Middle TN Council's Grimes Canoe Base on the Buffalo River.

The group camped out at the canoe base on Friday night.  After breakfast Saturday morning, canoes, paddles, and life-jackets were loaded up and everyone was carried 7 miles upstream.

Six canoes made up the group from 227.  Different adult teams remained in the front and rear of the 227 Armada, with all of the boy's canoes staying in the middle.  The float down the Buffalo encompassed 7 miles and took approximately 4 hours to complete.

Along the way, stops were made for lunch and for several favorite swimming "holes", along with a few intentional, managed flips into the river!

The weather and scenery along the Buffalo were beautiful.  Each Scout will receive credit for some of the requirements for the Camping merit badge.

Are you remembering to use your Kroger card?

We just deposited our first check from our Kroger gift cards of $200+. If you’ve let your card go empty and not used it for 3 months, you’ll have to purchase a new card for credit to continue going to our troop. So it’s easier just to keep using it faithfully so the credit will keep flowing in!

We do still have some cards if you need one or have a friend, neighbor or family member who’d like to support us. If you’d like more information, please contact Mellie Brackett at 793-5462 or mbrackett@mac.com.

One of our own in a theatre production

Ben is a part of the production of Sound of Music in Murfreesboro starting this weekend and running through June 28th. He plays a Nazi plus helps with costumes and set changes backstage…a really vital role that requires a big, strong body! Donovan’s mother and sister also have parts in this show, and Donovan and his dad helped build the set. For those of you interested in theatre or if you just want to support Ben by attending, you can get ticket info and directions at boroarts.org. The phone number to make reservations is 904-2787.
