We still have cards to sell; so get out there and spread the word. Remember, you can help the troop just by the dollars you ALREADY spend. In these rough economic times, anyone can do this! Here are the specifics.

When you pay $5 for a gift card registered as supporting Troop 227, you get your $5 back ON the card. Then you can recharge it up to $500 and use if on groceries, medicines or gasoline and our troop gets 4% of your purchases from the card. If youÕd like more information, please contact Mellie Brackett at 793-5462 or mbrackett@mac.com. LetÕs get these cards in place quickly and with as many friends and family members as possible.

TULLAHOMA CAMPOUT

On the cold, windy night of February 27th, the troop forged its way down I-24 to the Tennessee National Guard Army base in Tullahoma, where soldiers hone their skills at the rifle range.  As we drove by the entrance of Arnold Air Force base, we were wowed by fighter jets lined up at the front gate, displaying their finished products, of testing aircraft wings and jet engines in their massive wind tunnels.

Upon arrival at the rifle range facility, we knew rain would be upon us before the break of dawn.  The scouts decided to setup tents on large concrete pads used by various personnel, to minimize the rain coming into their sleeping bags.  The old scout leaders took their chances on the soft ground.

The next morning, scouts went to work pulling cooking equipment from the troop trailer.  It didnÕt take long before you could smell fresh cooked eggs and sausage coming from the skillet.

After KP duty, the scouts walked to the indoor shooting range to practice their shooting skills with the famous M16 and M4 rifle.  With the aid of computer technology, scouts were able to see how efficient their shooting skills were on simulated targets.  The grand finale was the turkey shoot!  Upon command, scouts opened fired on a large computer screen filled with wild turkeys.  It was quite a sight to see them shooting in rapid fire as those poor turkeys walked into their ambush.

After regaining our hearing, the scouts spent the rest of the day working diligently on scouting skills and merit badge requirements.  Even though the weekend weather was cold, everyone had warm memories of time spent in Tullahoma.
