Troop 227
March 2010 Newsletter
Introduction
Welcome to the seventy-sixth edition
of our Troop 227 Newsletter. To learn more about Boy Scouts, please visit us at
any troop activity, speak to a troop leader, or visit one of the following
websites.
Junior Leadership Training
Troop 227 held a Junior Leader
Training (JLT) program at the Crieve Hall church building on Friday night and
Saturday morning, February 5-6.

JLT is a Boy Scout training program
that teaches the boys troop leadership skills so they can actually lead the
troop.
In Scouting, the troops are designed
to be led by the boys through patrols. Adult leaders guide, offer advice, and
are always close by, but let the various patrol leaders actually lead their
patrols and the troop at large.
Some of the leadership skills taught
were communication, working together as a group and cooperation, ways to
motivate and build esteem, and identifying the talents of those that they lead
and how to use those talents for the good of the patrol and troop.
Leadership lessons consisted of
hands on exercises, real life examples and demonstrations, and videos. The
movie “Follow Me Boys” was a hit Friday night.
Another favorite activity was the
potato game/learning exercise. Each boy received a baking potato and was
charged with identifying unique and good qualities of their potato. They were
asked how those qualities could help the group as a whole. It was enjoyable to
hear each boy introduce their potato to the group!
Saturday morning consisted of some
final exercises and training, and then a graduation.
Eagle
Scout Project
Landry is looking for volunteers to
assist him with his Eagle Project on Saturday (10:30AM, March 13th and
probably March 20th) at the Nashville Zoo. Landry will send an email to the troop
family, giving more details about his project.
Stay tuned!!!

You Note
The following thank you note was
received recently.
February 11, 2010
To all the members of Troop 227,
Thank you for the birthday letter
and for your support of our soldiers. It
is always nice to receive mail from home, especially on special occasions.
I have about 22 days left in country
now, and I am looking forward to being back with my family. I have an eleven year old daughter who says I
have been gone long enough. My husband
also serves in the military and will be deploying to Afghanistan shortly after
my return from Iraq. Please keep him in
your prayers.
Thank you again for your
thoughtfulness and caring.
Sincerely,
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Lynn Martin
