Friends of Scouting
All
parents and friends are invited to come to our next troop meeting on Monday,
May 11th at 6:30pm. Randy Foster, who is a scout leader in the Dan Beard
district and a Metro Councilman will talk about our
annual Friends of Scouting program.
Every
year we have the opportunity to pledge our financial support to keep our camps open
and our council operating. This is the essence of the Friends of Scouting
campaign, raising money to help the Middle Tennessee Council offset the actual
cost of delivering and running the Scouting program.
The
presentation is typically 10 to 15 minutes in length with time to collect
contributions or pledge cards.
You
are not required to give, but this brief meeting is simply an opportunity to
learn more about the financial aspects of the Boy Scout program and how you can
help.
After
his brief presentation, Randy Foster said he will be happy to answer any
questions you may have regarding his work with the
Metro Council or any community issues.
Memorial Day Flag Placement at
the National Cemetery

The
Middle Tennessee Council, Boy Scouts of America, invites you to attend the
Annual Memorial Day Flag Placement at the National Cemetery, in Madison. This
is just one of many ways the Scouts can show their patriotism and citizenship
for our Country's Veterans. This tradition was started more than 35 years ago,
and still continues to grow!

"A Scout is Helpful"
One of the aspects I enjoy about being involved with Troop 227 is that many of
the troop families are also part of the spiritual family at Crieve
Hall Church of Christ - our Charter Organization. Recently, several members of
the troop were involved in a service that was much needed.
On Friday, April 10, a level F4 tornado ripped through the Murfreesboro area,
causing damage to hundreds of homes and businesses. One of the homes that
sustained damage was that of Mark and Alicia and their children, Hilary and
Hunter. Within a couple of hours, there were several friends there to help with
moving items to a local storage facility.
The next day, many more friends and family came back to continue the task of
moving out all the valuables and cleaning up the debris left by the storm.
Although this was not an "official" Scout service project, many scouts
and scouters were on hand to help out.
On the
following Saturday, additional scouts from Troop 227 and Girl Scout Troop 1629
from Brentwood teamed up with Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort and
Kingwood Heights Church of Christ to help clean up debris for three additional
homes destroyed by the same tornado in Murfreesboro. These homes were two
blocks away from where a mother and her child lost their lives. Even though we
did not know the families affected by the storm, we were grateful for the opportunity
to come to their aid.
One of the points of the Scout Law is "A Scout is Helpful". I'm
thankful that we had this opportunity to practice what we preach!
Are you remembering to use your
Kroger card?
We just
deposited our first check from our Kroger gift cards of $200+. If youÕve let
your card go empty and not used it for 3 months, youÕll have to purchase a new
card for credit to continue going to our troop. So itÕs easier just to keep
using it faithfully so the credit will keep flowing in!
We do
still have some cards if you need one or have a friend, neighbor or family
member whoÕd like to support us. If youÕd like more information, please contact
Mellie Brackett at 793-5462 or mbrackett@mac.com.
