Historic Chickamauga National Battlefield

B

etter known to some as Troop 227 Goes Hiking, this trip was filled with exciting adventures and unexpected surprises.  Scouts, Scouters, and visiting Webelos took a walk back in time as we hiked around the Civil War battlefield.

O

ne group of scouts hiked the 5 mile General Bragg trail, while the other group of scouts hiked two trails, the 14 mile Cannon Trail and the 6 mile Confederate Line Trail for a total of 20 miles!  The great battle of Chickamauga occurred exactly 142 years before our visit this past weekend.  As you may recall, the Confederate side won that battle but ultimately lost the Civil War.

Freshmen at the Fall Camporee

O

n October 14, our scouts will enter into unfamiliar territory: the Fall Camporee!  That’s right.  This is the first time since its resurrection that Troop 227 will be attending the annual Fall Camporee held at Boxwell Reservation.  Similar to the Spring Camporee, patrols are sent to several different stations spread throughout the camp where they will compete in various activities that are designed to hone and sharpen basic skills.  The deadline to sign up is the Oct. 3 troop meeting.

Grandma’s Just a Phone Call Away…

I

t’s that time of year again.  Once again the “Kernal” is King, and scouts as super salesmen reign supreme.  The smell of butter wafts through the air as people begin to dust off their microwaves for another flavor filled season.  IT’S POPCORN TIME IN TENNESSEE!

F

or those of you who don’t know, selling popcorn is Troop 227’s way of making money.  The more popcorn sold, the cooler the outings we can afford to go on.  Simple.  Right?  Maybe, but we need your help.  The Kernal wants each scout in Troop 227 to have made at least ten sales by the October 10th meeting.  Remember to wear your uniform, be polite, and NEVER go selling alone.  Most people are expecting your visit and are willing to buy, so don’t let them (or the Kernal) down.  Grandma is waiting...so go get ’em!
