Smyrna Air Base

What a great fall weekend for a campout! Troop 227 recently enjoyed a
activity filled weekend at the Smyrna Air Base Area 4 camping area. After
setting up camp, the scouts enjoyed dinner prepared by our youngest scout,
Jared. The next morning, we awoke to cool, breezy conditions at breakfast.
Then came the scouts favorite activity - shooting military training rifles
at the indoor range. These are real weapons with laser mechanisms mounted
on them to allow firing at simulated targets at distances up to 300 yards
away. The scouts were allowed to test their shooting skills to try and
qualify against the military standards. One of our scouts, Jacob, did
qualify for marksman on the course and Seth was very close to qualifying!

On Saturday afternoon, the scouts shifted their focus to serving others by
mulching a walking trail at the Sam Davis Home. A lot of hard work was
squeezed into a 2 1/2 hour period as the scouts loaded, hauled and spread
numerous wheelbarrow loads of mulch. The scouts all worked well together
to get the job completed by closing time.

Back at the campsite, there was some recreation time and then a much
needed dinner and relaxation around the campfire before turning in for a
good night's rest.

Thanks to our friends at the Smyrna Air base for another great weekend!
