Two New Eagle Scouts

ongratulations to Justin (July 23, 2007) and Will (August 20, 2007) who both earned the rank of Eagle Scout recently. Please let these two fine young men know how much you appreciate their accomplishments.

Ocoee Whitewater Rafting Outing

ine Scouts, four troop leaders, and one father from Troop 227 tamed the wild whitewaters of the Ocoee River on August 25th with the help of river guides Sarah, Justin, and Goose. Whitewater rapids are rated on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the most hazardous. Our journey included mostly category 2 and 3 rapids with a couple of category 4s. Each section of rapids has its own identity such as Broken Nose, Table Saw, Surprise Ledge, and Gonzo. The Scouts who attended this event declared that they all want to return to the Ocoee next year.

Dragon Boat Festival

hree of the Scouts who did not go on the Ocoee white water rafting trip went downtown to the Dragon Boat Races where we volunteered to help clean up the area where the crowds were watching the races. The three scouts who helped in this community service project were Luke, Benjamin, and Nathan. We went around Riverfront Park and picked up any trash we saw. When our trash bags and recycle bags were full, we emptied them in the trash cans and recycle bins all over the place, but every time we circled the park there was still some new trash on the ground! The three scouts that volunteered that day earned two community service hour credits. Good job, Luke, Benjamin, and Nathan!
